When to Shop and Opening Hours

Shopping in Lubeck has never been more relaxed and following the passing of a relatively new German law, many shops now stay open until as late as 20:00 from Monday to Saturday, although soon it may be possible for some to remain open later.

Whilst shops are still not permitted to open on Sundays, bakeries are allowed to trade throughout the day and some choose to open extremely early on Sunday mornings.

Where to Shop

The Old Town district of Lubeck is full of shops, including department stores, chains and speciality shops.

Particularly popular are the shops located along the Königstrasse stretch, where classical buildings and local shops stand side by side. Further shopping is also to be found nearby, along Breite Strasse.

View of shops in the city centreParticularly appealing are the shopping districts based around the streets of both Fleischhauerstrasse and Hüxstrasse, known throughout Lubeck for their shops specialising in local art and crafts, German wines and clothing. Many shopping streets in Lubeck also lie around the Dom Cathedral, being close to both Mühlenstrasse and also St. Annenstrasse.

At Christmas time, look out for Lubeck's seasonal Christmas market, which takes place every year in the grounds of the historic Heiligen-Geist Hospital and is full of interest and excitement.
