Close to Lubeck city centre, Stadtpark lies within the St. Gertrud area and is also home to the Volksfestplatz, where a number of events take place each year, including the city's annual fairground and circus.

Also popular and full of colourful planting is Lubeck's Schulgarten (School Garden), where many themed gardens offer plantings of seasonal colours, ranging from springtime bulbs to dramatic summer flowerbeds. Here are Lubeck's two main parks and gardens.


City Park (Stadtpark)

Lubeck City Park, known to locals as simply the Stadtpark, provides an important recreational area, with many open areas suitable for sunbathing, picnicking and games. Sports facilities are available in the form of a soccer field and basketball area, while for younger children a playground offers plenty to keep them happy. Within the park itself you will find many mature trees offering shady spots, where you can escape from the sun on the hottest days.

School Garden (Schulgarten)

A beautiful botanical garden filled with literally thousands of brightly coloured flowers during the summer months, Lubeck's School Garden (Schulgarten) lies alongside the banks of the meandering Wakenitz River. Horticultural highlights include herbaceous borders, medicinal herbs, Mediterranean-style planting, woodland areas and a cafe area, complete with outdoor tables and reasonably priced refreshments.
