(Derby, Derbyshire, England, UK)

Picture of the HiltonThe city of Derby provides a good choice of quality assessed, graded lodging and accommodation, ranging from friendly guest houses and small B&Bs, to luxury four-star hotels. Self-catering accommodation is also popular in Derby, coming in the form of centrally located apartments, close to the shops and sights.

Many visitors to Derby choose to stay in modern hotels with familiar brands, such as the Hilton East Midlands, the Express by Holiday Inn and the Ramada Encore. However, these are all sited outside of the city centre, and as such, offer extremely competitive lodging rates, often appealing to business travellers.

Where to Stay

One of the best options is the aptly named Cathedral Quarter Hotel, which is to be found along St. Mary's Gate and is actually now a Grade II listed building more than 100 years old. This traditional red-brick Victorian hotel enjoys a stunning central location, and much of the generous accommodation boasts views of Derby Cathedral itself. Also conveniently located are the European Inn and the Smart Aston Court, both of which stand on Midland Road and are just a short stroll from the train station and Derby's bustling shopping centre.

If money is not a problem, then consider staying at the Derbyshire Hotel on Carter Lane East, which arguably provides the region's most luxury accommodation and is within easy reach of the Peak District.

For great views of Derby Cathedral and beyond, the Jurys Inn Hotel on King Street dominates the skyline and boasts more than 200 guest rooms. Considerably cheaper is the Stuart Hotel on London Road, while many prefer to stay close to the airport, at hotels such as the Thistle East Midlands Airport, which is just metres from the terminal itself, and around 9 km / 6 miles from the city centre.
