Chester Maps and Orientation

(Chester, Cheshire, England, UK)

Located within the north-westerly county of Cheshire and alongside the meandering River Dee, the city of Chester is especially close to the northern border of Wales. This city is particularly famous for its historic walls and its black and white half-timbered shops lining Northgate Street, which generally date from the late 19th century or the start of the 20th century, although do appear considerably older.

The city centre is fairly small and most places of interest are usually just a short walk from each other. When referring to maps of Chester, look out for the most prominent local landmarks to get your bearings, such as the Eastgate Clock, Grosvenor Park, the Old Dee Bridge and the city's very imposing Cathedral on Abbey Square, which has its origins in the 13th century and serves as something of a leading tourist attraction today.

There are plenty of places to shop and eat within central Chester, with the city's numerous public houses often providing a traditional old-fashioned pub character. The Lower Bridge Street and Watergate Street are good spots to look for a bite to eat, and when it comes to shopping, the famous Rows shopping gallery is quite unmissable, whatever the weather.
