Located on the far western side of the county of Cheshire and close to the Welsh border, Chester is a city packed with history around almost every corner. The city's extensive Roman heritage has helped to provide an established infrastructure and the ancient Roman walls remain a firm reminder of its past glory.

Chester lies next to the River Dee and is today a bustling market town, brimming with character and tourist appeal. The city centre itself is fairly small in size, meaning that the principal attractions are within comfortable walking distance of each other. Many visitors choose to walk along the city walls and visit the Roman amphitheatre, as well as taking a stroll along the riverside promenade known as the Groves.

Rowing boats are a familiar sight on the River Dee during the summer months, while Grosvenor Park can be found filled with colourful bedding flowers at this time of the year. There is a large zoo for families to enjoy, which ranks amongst Europe's very best zoological gardens, a number of museums and a historic racecourse, as well as a stunning half-timbered Tudor shopping gallery named the Chester Rows.
