Chester Shopping and Districts

(Chester, Cheshire, England, UK)

Chester has earned itself something of a reputation as the shopping capital of Cheshire. Certainly, the city's shops do offer that most sought-after blend of the old and the new.

The latest fashion boutiques and best-known high street names sit alongside independent shops and some rather fine historic buildings. Famous for its city centre Rows, Chester also boasts plenty of more modern shopping centres and outlet stores.

Most shops in Chester open from 08:00 or 09:00 to 17:30 or 18:00 on weekdays and on Saturdays. Some shops do not open on Sundays. Those shops that do choose to open on Sundays tend to open later, at 10:00 or 11:00. They may also close earlier, at 16:00.

Where to Shop

Chester's main streets are home to many nationally known retailers, including those from the fashion world.

The Forum Shopping Centre on Northgate Street couldn't have a more central location. Next to the Town Hall and just across from the Cathedral, it is easy to take a break from sightseeing to partake of some retail therapy. The Grosvenor Shopping Centre on Pepper Street embraces a range of retail stores, offering everything from homeware to fashion and food.

Chester also has its own Market Hall, an indoor market of over 50 stalls that sell everything from fruit and vegetables to fabric and footwear. Situated on Princess Street, it is a great place to come across something more quirky than can be found on the high street.

In nearby Ellesmere Port, the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet is one of the largest shopping outlets in the UK. Luxury and high street brands are on sale at discount prices. Tax-free shopping is also available.
