Visiting the Hans Christian Andersen's Museum
I have always loved the stories and fables of Hans Christian Andersen, particularly the Ugly Duckling and the Emperor's New Clothes, oh and of course the Little Mermaid. So, when we came to Odense and I found out his strong association with the city i was keen to go to this museum. He was actually born here, although the building has been extended now. There were lots of paintings of this famous author, and I liked looking around the small yellow house, where we were told several families once lived, all together - must have been a bit of a tight squeeze! There are lots of personal effects and belongings of Hans Christian Andersen, and there is a computer monitor thing where you can listen to his fairy tales being read.

Odense Cathedral
It is known that the Odense Cathedral has origins from the 11th century, when a much smaller church stood on this site. It was altered and made bigger many times over the years, before finally becoming the cathedral. It has an unmistakable Gothic character and contains the ancient tomb of St. Knud, a former Danish king. Odense Cathedral is free to enter and opened from Monday to Saturday. It is on the Klosterbakken and close to the Town Hall Square.
