Africa in Portland at the Oregon Zoo
The city zoo was opened in the 1880s and so is one of Americas oldest. It covers over 60 acres and contains lots of lovely animals to come and see. We spent a whole day hear and loved every minute of it. Oregon Zoo is particularly well known for its conservation work and is proud of its successful breeding program. I found out that more than one million people visit the zoo every year - I find that incredible. It is open every day and if you can, try and come here on the second Tuesday in the month, when you can get in for just $2. Unfortunately, we had to pay the full price. The train ride around Washington Park was extra, but worth it.

Cruising in Portland along the Willamette River
We thought it would be nice to cruise on down the Willamette River one evening and we recommended to go on the Portland Spirit. This big boat was easy to find and departs from the main waterfront area. The cruise lasted around two and a half hours and included a really good meal, with wine. It cost about $60 for each of us, but if you think this sounds too much, you can always go at lunchtime, when it is virtually half the price for pretty much the same thing, only in the sun, rather than the sunset.
