Raleigh has a good location and the city is centrally located between Florida and New York, making Raleigh easily to travel to from other major US cities.

The city of Raleigh is accessible directly by air, rail and bus transport, with an international airport within the city environs and Greyhound and Amtrak stations centrally located. Raleigh also offers convenient bus travel, as well as downtown trolley transport and taxis.


Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) / Arriving by Air

Lying on the northwest outskirts of the city, just beyond the William B Umstead State Park, is Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The airport is served by major airlines including American Airlines, Continental, Delta, Northwest and United Airlines. Interstate 40 and Highway 401 northbound run to Raleigh city, while buses, shuttle transport and taxis travel to and from the airport on a regular basis.

Car Rental

All major car hire travel firms are represented at the airport, as well as in the town. Raleigh is well served by interstate highways, making it easily accessible for visitors arriving by car. Interstate 40 comes in from the west and departs southbound, while I-85 passes through Durham in the northwest and the major north-south I-95 passes within miles of Raleigh, to the east of the city. Raleigh also has a convenient ring road, I-440, which makes airport transfers fast for those staying east of the city center.

Buses and Coaches

Greyhound Lines buses provide cheap long-distance transport and run to Raleigh from all directions, while the Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) has regular connections at very reasonable prices between Raleigh and nearby towns such as Durham, Chapel Hill and Cary. Also, the Capital Area Transit (CAT) provides travel along various routes in and around the city, while the Raleigh Trolley offers historic tours and on weekdays.

Trains

Amtrak trains travel to Raleigh daily from New York and Washington D.C. in the north, and from Florida destinations in the south. The Silver Star service runs from New York to Florida, stopping in Raleigh, while the Carolinian runs from Charlotte, via Raleigh, to New York. The Piedmont travels in the other direction from Raleigh to Charlotte.

Taxis
