There are a good selection of golf courses to be found around Raleigh, particularly to the east and south of the city. Located on the southern side of the North Carolina State University campus, the Lonnie Poole Golf Course (designed by Arnold Palmer) can be reached via South Wilmington Street (US-401) and the Tom Bradshaw Freeway (Interstate I-40). Nearby and established in 1929, the Raleigh Golf Association (RGA) offers a monthly open tournament, regular events and family membership.

The Raleigh Country Club resides on the eastern side of the city, on Donald Ross Drive (previously named Peartree Lane) and within the Worthdale Forest area, being just down the road from the Wake Technical Community College. This historic club was founded in 1948 and in 2004 underwent multi-million improvements, which saw the arrival of the club's renowned teaching facility.
