Charlotte: Visiting Lake Norman
Lake Norman is on the northern outskirts of the city and is pretty large. It is manmade and was created by some clever people who thought it would be a good idea to damn the Catawba River, and clearly it was. This is a major recreation spot and people come here for boating, jogging, fishing and just general relaxing. I recommend bring a picnic and making a day of it, or at least an afternoon.

The Carowinds Amusement Park
Carowinds is a big theme park (over 100 acres) in Charlotte and is close to the Interstate 77. It opened in the 1970s and has grown into a major resort, with its own hotels, shops, golf course and there is even a sports stadium. Now don't get me wrong, this is a great place for families and the rides were awesome. The entrance fee wasn't even particularly expensive. However, the shops and food stalls were a complete rip-off. I mean that this was some of the most expensive food I have had, and the hot dogs really were nothing special. If you come here yourself, make sure you bring your own food and drink. The bottled water was pricey as well.

Under the Boardwalk!
Well, not so much under it, but walking along the boardwalk in Charlotte was a highlight for me. It is in the university area and there is also a pretty lake here, with some boats and nearby seats. I enjoyed watched the people in the boats, and visiting the Wine Vault. This is a really tranquil spot and very family orientated.
