Bar Harbor Restaurants and Dining

(Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island, Maine - ME, USA)

Photo of al fresco tablesMaine has long been known for its seafood-based cuisine, and many restaurants, bistros and similar eateries throughout Bar Harbor specialize in all kinds of freshly caught seafood from the neighboring Frenchman Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Those dining out in Bar Harbor should expect to find dishes such as crab cakes, clam chowder, oysters and of course top-quality lobsters, which appear on menus throughout Mount Desert Island.

Lobsters in Bar Harbor restaurants are both tasty and quite affordable, and so should not be overlooked. Other dining options around town and all over Maine often feature blueberries, with blueberry pancakes being a firm favorite with the locals, along with corn of the cob and coleslaw.

Where to Eat

Of all the towns and villages around Mount Desert Island, Bar Harbor has the best selection of restaurants by far.

These dining venues tend to be based around roads such as Cottage Street, Kennebec Street, Main Street, Mount Desert Street, Newport Drive, Rodick Street and West Street, along with a number of cafes and bars, serving cheap eats and being conveniently close to the coastline.

Also popular and little unusual is the Reel Pizza Cinerama, where you can enjoy a pizza whilst catching a classic or current movie. For innovative seafood, consider dining at the Café Bluefish on Cottage Street, or at the more classical Bar Harbor Lobster Bakes Restaurant at Hulls Coves, when diners have been coming for more than 30 years, not only for the well-prepared food, but also for the glorious ocean views.
