Yacht pictureThe summer months are always a busy time for Bar Harbor, when tourists come here to sightsee in the sunshine, and to enjoy the festivals on offer. Various summer events take place in Bar Harbor, around the Acadia National Park, and throughout Mount Desert Island, meaning that there are always plenty of things to do, by day and during the evenings.

July is a busy time for the island and this is the month when each year the ever-popular Bar Harbor Music Festival is staged. Dating as far back as 1967, the Music Festival is well known for showcasing up-and-coming talent, attracting a diverse collection of composers, musicians, orchestra, bands and singers, with many outdoor concerts being staged in the Acadia National Park, completely free of charge.

Other noteworthy summer events in Bar Harbor including the Maine Craft Guild Show at the beginning of August, where local artisans from Mount Desert and beyond gather to sell their handicrafts, which include everything from hand-blown glass to detailed jewelry.

Soon after and in the middle of August, the week-long Bar Harbor Jazz Festival takes place. This is a relatively new addition to the island's events scene and founded as recently as 2004, being held in the Criterion Theater and Art Center on Cottage Street. September sees the arrival of the Bar Harbor Food and Wine Classic, which lasts for nine days and including wine tasty and plenty of opportunity to sample local Maine cuisine.
