Louisville Hotels and Accommodation

(Louisville, Kentucky - KY, USA)

As a medium-sized city, Louisville comes with a very healthy array of accommodation and lodging to choose from. Downtown hotels overlooking the Ohio River are particularly in demand in Louisville, although you should always expect to pay a little extra for the most appealing views and proximity to attractions.

Some very reasonably priced hotels are to be found close to the Louisville International Airport (SDF), which is only 6 miles / 10 km south of the city center and especially near to the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center, and also the University of Louisville campus. Decent neighboring airport accommodation comes in the form of the Best Western Ashton, the Courtyard by Marriott, the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the Hampton Inn and the Residence Inn, all of which are clustered together on Phillips Lane and just a short distance from the Terminal Drive.

Where to Stay

Budget accommodation is quite widespread in Louisville, although most of the cheapest hotels stand well away from the city center. Located on the Commonwealth Drive and on the easterly outskirts is the Candlewood Suites Hotel, which is close to both the Blankenbaker Parkway and the Interstate I-64. A number of further cheap chains stand in this part of the city, such as the Hilton Garden Inn, the Holiday Inn Express and the Microtel Inn. Numerous basic motels also lie around the Interstate I-65, on the very outskirts of the city.

In the heart of downtown Louisville you will find a cluster of accommodation based around the Kentucky International Convention Center on South 4th Street. Good choices include the Hyatt Regency and Marriott Downtown on West Jefferson Street, the Fairfield Inn and Hampton Inn on East Jefferson Street, and the Courtyard Louisville Downtown on South 2nd Street.

Other noteworthy mid-range lodging areas in Louisville also include East Main Street, which passes attractions such as the Louisville Slugger Field baseball stadium and the Extreme Park - an acclaimed public skatepark recommended by famous skateboarder Tony Hawk. The Residence Inn by Marriott is one such hotel located on East Market Street and is reasonably close to the waterfront and the Riverwalk trail.

Rather upmarket and offering four-star luxury accommodation is the 21C Museum Hotel on West Main Street, which is proud of its downtown setting within the Museum Row area, near to the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. Close to the Cathedral of the Assumption on South 5th Street is the Seelbach Hilton Hotel, which stands on 4th Street and just down the road from a popular Hard Rock Cafe. Theater-goers looking for lodging in Louisville often favor the historic Brown Hotel on West Broadway. Next-door to the Brown Theater and only a block north of the Spalding University Campus, the Brown Hotel is well-placed for nightlife and restaurants.

If you would like to look for hotels just a few miles from Louisville, and therefore possibly enjoy cheaper lodging rates, then consider crossing the Ohio River and the Kentucky border, and venturing into Indiana. Appealing accommodation awaits in nearby Indiana towns and cities such as Clarksville, Jeffersonville, New Albany and Sellersburg.
