Trujillo Hotels and Accommodation

(Trujillo, La Libertad, Peru)

Image showing the popular Hostal ColonialAlthough reliable budget lodging may be a little hard to come by in Trujillo, if you are prepared to pay just a little more for your hotel, you will be able to enjoy a very reasonable standard of accommodation, with some colonial character and ambience often thrown in.

Others simple prefer to stay close to Trujillo, in the neighbouring beach resort of Huanchaco, close to the archaeological site of Chan Chan.

Hotels in Trujillo are very much grouped in the city centre, with much accommodation to be found on the southern side of the Old City Wall. Those headed for a soccer match at the recently remodelled Estadio Mansiche stadium will find a choice of very cheap lodging close by, including both the Hotel San Martin and the Hostal el Ensueno.

Where to Stay

At busy times, such as during the International Spring Festival (El Festival Internacional de la Primavera) each September, hotels in Trujillo are in great demand and therefore accommodation rates soon rise. However, in the quiet months of December, January and February, lodging tends to be at its very cheapest.

Budget travellers and backpackers visiting Trujillo frequently favour the rather basic Hostal Lima on the Calle Ayacucho, or alternatively choose the very tasteful Hostal Colonial, on the Jiron Independencia, just a stone's throw from the Plaza de Armas. Mid-range hotels are often happy to provide discounts for guests coming in off the street, although do bear in mind that the most central street-side accommodation can be a little on the noisy side as night-time approaches. In the very heart of Trujillo's shopping district, the Real Hotel stands on the Pizarro, while if you fancy a splurge, then check out the classy, four-star Hotel Liberator, on the northern corner of the Plaza de Armas.
