Callao Shopping and Districts

The shopping scene in Callao cannot help but be overshadowed by that on offer close by, in Lima. However, Callao does feature plenty of opportunities to shop 'til you drop, with the recent arrival of modern shopping centres, such as both the Mall Aventura Plaza Bellavista and also the Mall Parque Arauco.

A number of small art galleries are located around Callao and Lima, and they provide a good choice of paintings, which often make good holiday souvenirs. Various handicrafts, jewellery and items of clothing are also popular with tourists.

Where to Shop

In Lima, the artisan market of Feria Artesanal, on the Avenida de la Marina, is well known for its quality handicrafts and a friendly attempt at haggling is always welcomed by the stall holders. Those flying into Callao's very own Jorge Chávez International Airport will also find duty-free shopping available, close to the customs area.

The shopping hours in Callao and Lima tend to be 09:00 until 18:00, Monday to Saturday, although some smaller shops do choose to close for an hour or two at lunchtimes, and most remain shut on Sundays. Markets tend to stay open longer, until as late as 19:00 or 20:00.
