Callao Events and Festivals
Although there are a number of seasonal events and popular things to do in the Callao area, most of the biggest festivals are held next door, in Lima
. Callao cannot help but be somewhat overshadowed by the calendar of annual events in Lima, and with so much on offer so close by, it is quite likely that your holiday in Peru
will coincide with some kind of festival or religious celebration, particularly around Easter time, when Holy Week (Semana Santa) is one to look out for.
Annual events in Callao start with New Year's Day, on January 1st, which is a national holiday throughout Peru. Other notable festivals and holidays include Labor Day on May 1st, Inti Raymi on June 24th, the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul on June 29th, and the Peru National Independence Days, held on July 28th and 29th.
