Florianopolis Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

For much of the year, the daytime temperatures in Florianopolis average more than 25°C / 77°F, with the humid subtropical climate bringing with it distinct seasons and weather. Since Florianopolis is located in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are the opposite of those on the northern side of the equator, with summer falling between December and February, and winter from June to August.

The summer months enjoy the hottest climate, when by day, temperatures soar to more than 30°C / 86°F and by night, stay well above a very respectable 22°C / 72°F. However, since Florianopolis lies next to the South Atlantic Ocean, the humidity levels are also often fairly high. On occasion, cold fronts arrive from the Antarctica, being accompanied by fresh southerly winds and rain.


Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

December and January experience the highest levels of rainfall, around 15 cm / 6 inches each month, compared to June, July and August, when precipitation levels are much less, at just over 6 cm / 2.4 inches. The relatively spread out rain ensures that the surrounding mountains boast lush vegetation throughout the year, making a beautiful backdrop for the city.
