Florianopolis Beaches

(Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil)

Florianopolis has blossomed into an extremely popular tourist destination, thanks in no small part to its alluring sandy beaches, lengthy coast and plentiful sunshine. There are more than 40 different beaches spread along the shoreline of Florianopolis, with the Praia Mole (Mole Beach) reliably drawing large crowds on sunny days and featuring rolling hills, rocky outcrops and easy access.

Located on the eastern side of the city, the Praia Mole stretches for just under 1,000 metres / 3,280 feet, being well-known in Florianopolis for its westerly winds and strong waves, which create good surfing conditions. The Praia Mole is also a good place to come if you enjoy hang gliding, since its southerly hillside lends itself for easy take-offs.

General Information

The summer months are a busy time in Florianopolis, when many of the city's beaches fill up with holiday makers. A number of the eastern resorts are especially popular and although it is the Praia Mole that is the busiest, the neighbouring beaches of Praia Joaquina and Praia de Mocambique are very appealing. Together, these beaches tend to attract a relatively young crowd.

The northerly resorts of Brava, Canasvieiras, Daniela, Ingleses, Jurere and Santinho are also of note, with these beaches never being far from amenities, such as toilets, shops, eateries and hotels. Favoured by tourists, the Praia dos Ingleses (English Beach) is separated from the Praia do Santinho by towering sand dunes, which are highly suitable for the sport of sandboarding.

Heading southwards from Florianopolis, the best beaches include the Praia da Armacao, the Praia do Campeche and the Praia do Morro das Pedras, all of which are very beautiful. Campeche Beach boasts white sands stretching for more than 5 km / 3 miles and good surfing conditions, while the waves of Joaquina Beach are so reliable that Florianopolis has hosted various surfing championships here over the years. Joaquina Beach comes with excellent tourists facilities, such as public showers, lifeguards, toilets, shops, restaurants, hotels and parking.
