Foz do Iguacu Shopping and Districts

(Foz do Iguacu, Paraná, Brazil)

As such a prominent tourist destination in the state of Paraná, it will come as no real surprise to find that the shopping scene in Foz do Iguacu is very established. Souvenirs and traditional Brazilian gifts are a mainstay for many shops in Foz do Iguacu, which sell everything that you would expect and more, much of which tends to be branded with the city's name. One of the most popular and reliable gift shops in the city is the Fronteiras Artesanatos on the Avenida das Cataratas, near the turn off for Argentina, which is known for its precious gem stones and carvings.

The principal shopping district in Foz do Iguacu is based around the Avenida Brasil, which has long been an important thoroughfare and often packed with a mixture of locals and tourists. Shops are distributed throughout the Avenida Brasil and include a number of trendy fashion boutiques, music stores and outlets selling electrical goods. Street vendors selling jewellery and similar items are also based here and generally expect a spot of friendly haggling over prices.

Where to Shop

Since Foz do Iguacu stands alongside both Argentina and Paraguay, the opportunity for some bargain duty free shopping presents itself on the borders, particularly on the Argentine boundary. The Friendship Bridge (Ponte da Amizade) links Paraguay's Ciudad del Este with Foz do Iguacu and this area is a good place for some serious window shopping, especially along streets such as the Avenida Camilo Recalde and the Avenida San Blas.

Alternatively, some genuine deals are available at the Iguacu Market, which is a good place to purchase local produce for an impromptu picnic. The Iguacu Market (Feira do Iguacu) opens each weekend and also during the week in the peak season.
