The cuisine of Foz do Iguacu is relatively diverse and restaurants frequently serve traditional Brazilian dishes, which are known for their Portuguese origins and tasty Mediterranean flavours. Dining out is often popular with visitors to Foz do Iguacu and the local eateries are also influenced by the dishes next door in Argentina.

For a simple lunchtime bite to eat, sandwich shops can be found along the Avenida Brasil, where they serve baguettes filled with sliced meats and cheeses, perfect for a spot of impromptu al fresco dining. For something a little more formal, check out the 'churrascaria' steakhouse restaurants around the Rua Reboucas, where buffet-style meals of 'rodizio' (mixed grilled chicken, pork and beef) is a real highlight.


Where to Eat

For restaurants, bars and clubs, the Avenida Jorge Schimmelpfeng is the perfect spot to start any evening, with beer gardens drawing the crowds. Running parallel with the Avenida Jorge Schimmelpfeng is the Rua Edmundo de Barros, where a number of dining opportunities present themselves. The intersecting Rua Marechal Deodoro da Fonseca is another good place to look for local eateries, as is the nearby Rua Rui Barbosa and the Rua Reboucas.

Those on the Argentinean side of the Iguacu Falls will find that there is a popular hotel here serving excellent buffet food, where you can enjoy scenic views and even the odd toucan flying by. On the Brazilian side of the waterfalls, the Porto Canoas Station is also known for its buffet dining and overlooks the river.

What to Eat

Many of the local dishes available at restaurants in Foz do Iguacu are meat or fish based, being served with rice and accompanied with the local 'cachaca' drink, which is distilled from sugarcane and taste rather like a sour rum. Worth looking out for are the following dishes:
