Belo Horizonte Art Galleries

(Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil)

There are several official galleries and art museums in Belo Horizonte, as well as the numerous art shops selling paintings around the city centre. A relatively recent addition to the arts scene in the city of Belo Horizonte, the Museu de Artes e Oficios (Museum of Arts and Crafts) has become an important cultural space and occupies the former central railway station.

Also worthy of mentioning is the Museu de Arte de Pampulha, which stands in a building built in 1940 and originally designed to be a large casino. Many art works are now exhibited at this renowned gallery, including paintings, sculptures and drawings of all descriptions, together with a number of ceramics and glassware pieces. If you have time for an excursion, then consider visiting the recently opened Inhotim Art Museum (Centro de Arte Contemporanea Inhotim) at the Vale Verde Ecological Park, some 60 km / 37 miles to the south-west, in nearby Brumadinho.
