Marmaris Restaurants and Dining

(Marmaris, Mugla Province, Turkey)

Picture of local al fresco diningMarmaris doesn't quite have the best food in Turkey, but there are plenty of dining options, allowing holiday makers to eat well. Many tourists spend much of their time on or near the beach, and this is where most of the restaurants and eateries are, whether Turkish or British oriented.

For finer dining in Marmaris, check out the restaurants in this area at night, or go upmarket and take in the marina or harbour areas. There are some great local seafood and salad dishes with tastes of the south, while fish 'n chips aficionados are well catered for.

What to Eat, and Where

The local cuisine of Marmaris is diverse and tasty, and being on the coast means it has good access to fresh seafood and fresh vegetables. Mussels with rice and nuts is tasty, as is octopus salad and grilled fish. Aubergines are grown locally and another popular dining option is stewed aubergine with basil.

The beachfront is the best bet for restaurants in Marmaris, as prices here are more respectable than at the marina or harbour. You will find good Turkish and British fare, and many places will take euros, pounds or dollars.

A noted, out-of-town restaurant is the Caglayan Restaurant in the nearby village of Cetibeli. It boasts a stunning garden setting and does breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Back in the city of Marmaris, those looking to self-cater will be pleased to learn there are supermarkets here, including a Tesco Kipa. Most of them also come with bakeries, and, of course, are air conditioned. Try the cafés for a local beer (Efes), while teetotallers could go for the yogurt-based Ayran drink. Of note, wine is generally quite expensive.
