Getting Around, Palma Nova Travel, Transport and Car Rental
(Palma Nova, Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain)
Palma Nova's position between Palma and Magaluf places it within convenient reach of all the island's major transport options. The local airport is one of the busiest in Spain and sees its highest passenger numbers during the peak summer season.
Mallorca's trains and buses also travel through (or near to) Palma Nova on their way to the capital. Without question, holiday makers will find that the most scenic modes of transportation are water taxis and the train to Sóller.

Palma de Mallorca Airport is one of Spain's most heavily used and now sees annual passenger numbers exceeding 20 million, with expansion plans currently being discussed. This airport is especially historic and began its life in the early part of the 1920s.
Located on the opposite (east) side of Palma, the airport usually takes about 25 minutes to reach by car, depending upon traffic. The busiest carriers are easyJet, Air Berlin, Air Europa, Condor, Jet2 and Ryanair. Flights connect all over Europe, many on a charter basis.

Car Rental
The fact that Palma Nova is so close to Palma means visitors based here have access to the best interchange of motorways on the island. Hire cars including Europa, Centauro, Betacar, Hasso and Avis are available in the arrivals hall of the airport. Otherwise, it's possible to arrange a pick-up through your chosen hotel. The mobility afforded by a hire car is essential if you plan on taking many island excursions, and the freedom allows you to reach some beautiful isolated beaches.
Buses and Coaches
Buses connect Palma Nova to cities, towns and holiday resorts all over the island. Again, Palma is the public bus hub and the main station is to be found on the Carrer d'Esebi Estada. Buses are inexpensive and useful for getting from one place to the next, but trying to arrange a day trip via public bus transport can often be a little on the difficult side.
Trains
There are two major train lines on the island. Both connect from Palma (at the Placa d'Espanyai). One runs to the quaint village of Sóller, facilitating a lovely day trip possibility. The other connects to Sa Pobla in the interior. This particular line is less touristy and more about shuttling locals from interior villages to the capital.
Taxis
Taxis are widely available on the island, especially from the airport, train station and bus station. They can also be flagged down on the street in Palma Nova, which is convenient for a quick trip into Magaluf or Palma. Longer distance travel than this is expensive, which is why most visitors opt for a hire car rather than a taxi.
Boats and Ferries
A fleet of ferries connect
Mallorca to the Spanish mainland, particularly to
Valencia and
Barcelona. On the island, this can also be a convenient way to get around. The beach at Palma Nova offers a water taxi service useful for reaching neighbouring resorts and villages. Bigger boats can be chartered from the marina at Portals Nous.
