Palma Nova Restaurants and Dining

(Palma Nova, Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain)

Dining out is one of Palma Nova's simple pleasures, with plenty of support from local beach resorts. Neighbouring Palma is equally enticing, and it offers an even mix of fine dining restaurants and down-to-earth eateries. Along those lines, prices vary significantly, so it's not a bad idea to shop around if you are on any kind of a budget. As with mainland Spain, tapas transforms a regular night out into an event worth repeating.

Most of the restaurants in Palma Nova front the Balearic Sea and offer fine al fresco dining. The nicer ones are run through local four- and five-star hotels and typically serve international fusion made from fresh, local seafood. Practically every major headland along the coast has a restaurant on its far end, and there are also several cafés and local eateries around the Portals Nous harbour.

What to Eat, and Where

One popular restaurant in Palma Nova is Monroes, which also schedules plenty of entertainment throughout the week. The bar and lounge area puts on cabaret performances, live music and regular karaoke nights, and there's something happening here almost every night of the week. Other restaurants and dining establishments that are regular favourites include the Restaurante Paco y Mona, Ca's Canari and the Mason Son Caliu.

Be sure to try the local pork loin (lomo) while in Palma Nova restaurants. The preferred way to prepare it is to wrap it in cabbage leaves and serve with a grape and tomato sauce. This is a Mallorcan original unlike anything you will taste on the mainland. Aubergines are a staple, and their often stuffed with fish.

Mallorca is the only Balearic island to make its own wine. None of it reaches the mainland, so there's a good chance that you will come across bottles and labels you've never seen before. Most of the bottling happens across the island in Felanitx.
