Getting Around, Lloret de Mar Travel, Transport and Car Rental

(Lloret de Mar, Catalonia, Spain)

The town centre and the beachside areas are easy to cover on foot, and nearby towns have good bus connections for an afternoon away from sand and sea.

Most tourists travel to Lloret de Mar on charter flights through Girona Costa Brava Airport, or use rail transport from Barcelona. Transportation from the airport for non-package tour arrivals is by bus or shared direct shuttle. Barcelona Airport may be a greater distance away from Lloret de Mar, but the direct train link is an attraction for independent travellers, and this airport does host all the major international flag-carriers, giving a greater degree of reliability.

Amenities in the terminal include car rental, taxis, Internet access, restaurants and shops. A better choice of airlines and services is available at Barcelona Airport, which is served by many international carriers and direct flights from worldwide destinations. However, at around 90 km / 56 miles to the south-west, this facility is a little further afield.

Car Rental

If freedom to travel when and where you please is important, car rental is the obvious answer and is easily arranged either in advance online, or at either Girona Costa Brava or Barcelona airports upon arrival. Car hire offices are also available in Lloret de Mar itself.

Once you have your four wheels, you may like to consider exploring this part of Catalonia, driving to nearby beach resorts such as Blanes, Malgrat de Mar and Pineda de Mar, all of which reside to the south-west. Continue in this direction and you will reach Barcelona in just over an hour.

Buses and Coaches

For independent travellers, a bus provides a regular service from Girona Costa Brava Airport to Lloret de Mar, while a rail link brings Barcelona arrivals to the resort. Shuttle bus services run to Lloret from both airports, and local bus and coach services also travel along the coast to and from Barcelona. Public buses link numerous rural areas, although do tend to be sporadic at best.

Trains

Barcelona's train service connects with a series of towns, including Tarragona, Girona, Blanes, Lloret de Mar, Lleida and Piogcerda. However, rural areas do tend to be largely neglected and so are often easiest to reach by rental car.

Taxis

The high season open-top tourist buses and tourist train between the beaches make travel by taxi more or less unnecessary. Transfer by taxi between the airports is expensive due to the distances involved. Several radio taxi companies operate in town - your hotel or the tourist office will be able provide details.

Boats and Ferries

A water-taxi operates regularly in the high season between a number of neighbouring Costa Brava resorts. There are also a number of coastal ferries to hand, which sail between Tossa del Mar and various other coastal resorts.
