Lloret de Mar Shopping and Districts

(Lloret de Mar, Catalonia, Spain)

There's no shortage of shops in Lloret de Mar, but most are geared to the low end of the market, with cheap tourist tat. In general, there is very little to excite the shopper seasoned in foreign climes or the visitor looking for genuine local handicrafts. Most shops and kiosks, including malls, are centred around the beach area behind the waterfront, and all stock similar merchandise, as do the stores in the city centre shopping precincts.

The majority of shops in Lloret de Mar stay open from early to very late, especially in high season. The town's Tuesday market at the Carrer des Mestres sells crafts including leather goods, and a craft and curio market kicks off on alternate Sundays. The municipal farmers' market runs every weekday on the Carrer Senia del Rabic.

When to Shop and Where

Along the beach at nearby Blanes are more varied shopping opportunities, just a short distance from Lloret de Mar, with a number of designer boutiques, some upscale, and a more interesting Monday morning street market on the promenade selling crafts of a better standard, including pottery, jewellery and embroidered linen. The old quarter of Blanes is lined along its narrow streets with interesting little stores, and if it's shoes you are after, this is most definitely the place.

Monday through Saturday mornings in Blanes see a traditional farmers' market, which is famous for the quality of its local produce. If you are in the area, it's the best place to stock up for a picnic or cook-it-yourself meal. All in all, for serious shopping, a trip to Girona or Barcelona is the way to go.
