Lloret de Mar Tourist Attractions and Sightseeing

(Lloret de Mar, Catalonia, Spain)

Although Lloret de Mar's history dates back to Roman times, the blight of mega-tourism and modern-day tourist attractions has obliterated most traces, including its once important 18th-century port. A medieval castle tower and several attractive churches remain, but sightseeing improves dramatically if you visit Barcelona and other nearby Spanish cities and towns.

The main focus for attractions here is on theme parks, water parks, a casino, the superb beaches of Lloret de Mar, and the town's endless entertainment venues. Alternatively, tourists may simply like to take a stroll along the seafront Jacinct Verdaguer Promenade, an esplanade built on reclaimed land and lined with tropical palm trees.

Parish Church

Address: Lloret de Mar, Spain, ES
This pretty fairytale church, with its colourful spires in transitional Gothic / Renaissance style, dates back to the early part of the 16th century and contains a series of impressive Catalan murals from that period. Interestingly, the church was somewhat fortified when being built, so that it could provide protection for the locals against the possible pirate attacks that were expected at this time. The bell tower also functioned as a lookout and the gate infact doubled up as a drawbridge.
