Getting Around, Cordoba Travel and Transport

(Cordoba, Andalucia, Spain)

Finding your way around Cordoba is relatively easy. Visitors can choose from a variety of public and private transport options.

As well as taxis and city buses, rental cars are popular with those who are planning to travel out of the city to explore the local area. Alternatively, Cordoba is a small enough city that you will be able to get to many attractions on foot. In fact, guided walking tours are available round the historic centre of this Andalucian city.

Cordoba's airport is not open to passenger services. Visitors have a choice of nearby airports, including Seville, Malaga and Madrid. Seville is perhaps the most convenient for European visitors. The airport is located just 9 miles / 15 km from the centre of Seville, close to the A4 motorway.

Once you have flown into Seville International Airport, one option is to hire a car at the airport and drive to Cordoba. Alternatively, a bus service departs from outside the airport's Arrivals Terminal to the city centre, stopping at Seville's Santa Justa train station. From there, it is a relatively short train ride by fast AVE train to Cordoba.

Visitors from the USA will probably find that it is more convenient to fly to Madrid's Barajas Airport. Metro train transport links Madrid Airport with several central Madrid locations, including Atocha station. From there, it is possible to travel by train to Cordoba.

Car Rental

Half a dozen rental companies offer rental cars in the city, including some of the best-known international companies. Alternatively, energy saving tourists can opt to rent an electric car from the locally based firm, Blobject.

Buses and Coaches

Cordoba has a modern bus station, which is located opposite the RENFE train station. Bus transport connects all major towns in Andalucia. It is also possible to travel by bus to Madrid.

Trains

The city has a modern train station, which is located on the Avenida de America, in the northern part of the city. Spain's high speed network offers trains from Madrid, Seville, Malaga and Barcelona. Whilst this may be the fastest option to travel to Cordoba, it is certainly not the cheapest. Alternatives include a sleeper train from Cordoba to Barcelona, known as the Andalucia Express. In addition, there are plenty of cheaper trains operated by RENFE.

Taxis

Taxi transport is widely available in Cordoba, particularly in certain areas of the city, such as at the train station. Most hotels are also happy to organise a taxi on your behalf. All official taxis should carry a metre.
