Cordoba enjoys something of a Mediterranean climate, although there are some cooling Atlantic influences. Summers are generally hot, dry and sunny. Winters tend to be mild and wet.

Whilst there is not really a bad time of year to visit Cordoba, it is worth taking the weather into account to a certain extent. The best time of year to plan a trip here is during the autumn or spring, when temperatures are lower.

Like most of inland Spain, the summer months in the city are hot. For this reason, summer holidays in Andalucia are best avoided, unless you feel able to cope with extremely high temperatures. The hottest temperatures tend to occur in July and August, averaging anywhere between 27°C / 80°F and 29°C / 84°F. A lunchtime siesta is therefore often a necessity. Summer evenings tend to be cooler, making al fresco dining a pleasant possibility.

Cordoba's climate is at its wettest during the winter, particularly in November. Even at this time of year, temperatures are pleasantly mild and the days are often sunny. The coolest weather arrives during the month of January, where an average mean temperature of 10°C / 50°F can be expected. It rarely snows during the winter, although winter sports enthusiasts can venture into the nearby mountains to enjoy skiing and snowboarding.

Many tourists opt to visit Cordoba during the spring or autumn months, when temperatures are balmy and sightseeing can be carried out in greater comfort. An added bonus is the relative lack of tourist crowds at some of the city's major attractions. May and October are widely regarded as being the best months to pay a visit to this part of Andalucia.
