Cordoba Hotels and Accommodation
(Cordoba, Andalucia, Spain)
Accommodation is available all over Cordoba. That said, the most popular places to stay can be found in the narrow streets that surround the Mezquita, at the heart of the city's historic centre. As well as high-end and boutique hotels, there are budget hotels, guest houses and hostels offering budget lodging.
Away from the city centre are several camp sites. Whilst they are undoubtedly the cheapest form of accommodation, if you are not keen on catching buses or travelling by taxi, you will need your own transport if considering camping as an option.
Many visitors plan their stay in Cordoba to coincide with one of the city's festivals. When this is the case, it is essential to book well ahead. The city's hotels, particularly those that are close to the action, tend to fill up very quickly.
Where to Stay
Finding a hotel that is at the heart of Cordoba's historic centre has plenty of advantages. The Eurostars Maimónides, for example, offers close-up views of the Mezquita itself. Likewise, the Hotel Exe Conquistador boasts stylish lodging with a beautiful Moorish-style courtyard.
There are a few downsides to being so centrally located. If you are staying during a festival, or at the height of the summer, you may find central accommodation rather noisy. Plus, if you are arriving by car, then it is best to ask for detailed parking advice, any private garaging arrangements, and walking directions to your hotel.
If you are looking for somewhere special to stay, the five-star Hospes Palacio del Bailio should do nicely. Situated at the heart of old Cordoba, amidst its narrow alleyways and courtyards, the hotel dates to the 16th century. Its historic architecture is neatly combined with more modern additions and decor.
Perhaps the 'pièce de résistance' at the Hospes Palacio del Bailio is the glass-floored breakfast room from which you can admire the archaeological remains of a Roman villa. By way of contrast, one of the more modern hotels in Cordoba is the newly built AC Hotel Cordoba Palacio. Situated on the Paseo de la Victoria, it boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including a sumptuous outdoor swimming pool.
Bed and breakfast or guest house accommodation is perfect for budget-conscious visitors to Cordoba. Such establishments often include 'pension' or 'hospederia' in their name and tend to be family-owned establishments. Guest houses aimed more at backpackers and independent travellers are known as 'hostals'
Apartments are an ideal option if you are planning to stay for any length of time in Cordoba, or prefer to have more freedom with regard to catering arrangements. Most apartments are bright, airy and fully air-conditioned. They usually offer a well-equipped kitchen and housekeeping services.
Out-of-town accommodation includes country-style hotels, as well as farms and guest houses. Situated just a short drive from the city centre, they offer homely lodging with great views that include the nearby Sierra Morena mountains.
