Lodz Events and Festivals
(Lodz, Western Mazovia, Poland)
The best place to find out the largest festivals, trade fairs, events, shows and other things to do in Lodz is to pick up your copy of the monthly Kalejdoskop, although this is only published in Polish. This magazine is available at the Lodz Centrum Informacji Kulturalnej (Cultural Information Centre) on the Ulica Zamenhofa, where you will also be able to purchase various tickets to local shows and concerts, and find out the very latest events and festivals listing for the upcoming weeks.
Being home to the main film industry in the whole of
Poland, it will come as no real surprise to learn that Lodz contains a large number of cinemas, which include the Kino Cytryna on the Ulica Zachodnia, the Lodzki Dom Kultury (Lodz Cultural Centre) on the Ulica Traugutta, and the Silver Screen on the Al Pilsudskiego.
Some 2014 / 2015 festivals to look out for in Lodz include the International Animated Film Festival (ReAnimacja) towards the end of April, the Fotofestiwal (Festival of Photography) in mid-May, and the Festival of Dialogue of Four Cultures in late August. Also each May, the FotoMaraton (Lodz Marathon) is another notable event, which always draws a large crowd and passes many important Polish landmarks along the route.
Also popular in Lodz is the Camerimage (Festival of the Art of Cinematography) in November and December, the International Tapestry Triennial (International Exhibition of the Art of Tapestry) between June and October, and the Lodz Ballet Meetings, which takes place every other year in May at the Teatr Wielki (Grand Theatre).
