Car Rental

On the complex of Stuttgart Airport, visitors will find a great selection of car rental companies, including a number of well-known international brand leaders. Although Germany's public transport provides an excellent service, hiring a car gives holiday makers the freedom to travel where they want, when they want - a useful bonus if time is short. A further selection of car hire companies can be found at the main rail station and in the city centre. However, it should be noted that parking can be expensive, with many parking blocks closing at night.

Trains

Stuttgart's main train station is the region's hub for intercity express train services, linking the city with all major German destinations, as well as 13 European capitals, including London and Paris. Local train transport is provided by Stadtbahn's U-bahn and S-bahn services. Notable central Stadtbahn and S-bahn train stations include Charlottenplatz, Feuersee, Hauptbahnhof, Liederhalle, Rathaus, Schlossplatz, Staatsgalerie and Stadtmitte.

Taxis

Taxis in Stuttgart tend to come under the 'expensive luxury' heading as, even for short journey, charges are much higher than on any other form of transport. There are plenty around, being best used late at night when buses have stopped running. Women travelling alone should note that a subsidised Women's Night Taxi service operates after 20:00.
