Tampere Hotels and Accommodation

(Tampere, Pirkanmaa, Western Finland, Finland)

Photo showing lakefront lodgingThe majority of the accommodation in Tampere is to be found in and around Tampere city centre, with many of the hotels being extremely close to each other.

As a result, this part of Tampere boasts an extremely well developed infrastructure, often close to the main attractions, such as the cobbled Hämeenkatu Street and its famous City Sokos department store.

Hotels in the heart of Tampere have the advantage that many of the main sights are just a short walk away, such as the vast Koskikeskus, close to the Tammerkoski Rapids.

Further accommodation is conveniently based around the Tampereen Rautatieasema (train station) and the Keskustori (Central Square), which often serves as a useful meeting point.

Where to Stay

Apart from the very city centre, plenty of cheap hotels and lodging options are available slightly to the south, within the area known as Tammela. Home to part of the University of Tampere complex (Tampereen Yliopisto), accommodation in this part of the city also has the advantage of being near to a number of major entertainment venues, such as both the Tampere Stadium and the Tampere Hall (Tampere-talo) on Yliopistonkatu, Finland's premier conference centre and concert hall.

Those staying here with little to spend on accommodation may like to consider the cheap options around the city's striking cathedral and along Tuomiokirkonkatu, including a popular YWCA Hostel. Nearby and close to the Koskipuisto area are a series of business hotels, while further away and within the suburbs of Tampere, the Lapinniemi area is around 2 km / 1.5 miles from the city centre and features a number of affordable hotels, near to Lake Näsijärvi, in areas such as Lapinniemenranta and Lapinkaari. The district of Hervanta also features a range of accommodation and this part of Tampere is known for being a technological hub.
