Cruise to Abingdon, away from Oxford
Away from the colleges and historical buildings in Oxford, take a boat trip to the nearby market town of Abingdon on Thames. Boats regularly depart from the city's Folly Bridge and this is areally scenic and relaxing journey. Along the way you will see lots of lovely flowers and wildlife, painted narrowboats and some nice attractions at Iffley. We found this a really enjoyable way to spend an afternoon, much better than shopping!

Oxford Botanical Garden
This is the UK's oldest botanical garden and is around ten acres in size. There are lots of colourful flowers and some large greenhouses, which are open every day. Outside of the main summer season, entrance is free. The gardens are on the High Street and even if you do have to pay to get in, it is just a nominal charge and well worth it.

Punting on the River - Gotta be done!
It is a tradition in Oxford for the students to go punting along the Cherwell River and if you are visiting this historic city, it really is something that you should consider. Boat hire is available from around the Magdalen Bridge and costs around a tenner an hour. If you are not confident to try this yourself, then you can always pay extra for someone else to take you out for a trip.
