(Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England, UK)

The cathedral city of Lincoln resides within the English county of Lincolnshire, where it comes with a population close to 100,000 people. The city started life as a growing Iron Age town, being later re-established by the Romans.

Much of the tourist appeal in Lincoln tends to revolve around its glorious Gothic architecture and medieval remains, with the city's castle being a fine example of Norman fortifications in the 11th century.

The modern centre of Lincoln comes with plentiful shops and eateries, being connected to the historic cathedral quarter by the medieval lane named Steep Hill. The cathedral quarter itself is known for its Roman remains, with extensive excavations behind the city's famous cathedral revealing evidence of an ancient gateway and well. As you walk around the shops of Bailgate, look out for the stone circles within the road, since these are actually the remains of the Roman pillars that once lined this stretch.
