Leicester Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

(Leicester, Leicestershire, England, UK)

Photograph of contemporary architecture in the city centreThe temperate climate of Leicester is relatively mild, with a mixture of overcast weather, sunshine and rain. The winter months in Leicester are usually the wettest, particularly in December and January, while the summers are generally quite sunny, with temperatures in July averaging 22°C / 72°F and often topping 25°C / 77°F, generally being slightly cooler than those further south.

The climate begins to warm up noticeably by the time that April and May arrive, with sunshine becoming more plentiful and the days getting considerably longer. In May, the weather in Leicester can be especially sunny and pleasant, although being England, it is always quite changeable, and what can start off as a miserable day, can see the clouds quickly part and reveal a blue sky, and vice versa.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

In the height of the summer climate, the daylight hours can be more than 15 hours, meaning that evening activities, open-air concerts and al fresco dining (you may need a jacket) all become the order of the day.

When packing for a Leicestershire holiday, always be aware that whilst sunshine should be expected, an umbrella or raincoat is a sensible addition to any suitcase.
