Various exhibitions, galleries and commercial art shops are all to hand in and around central Leicester. The New Walk Museum and Art Gallery is the most notable of these and is home to an exceptional collection of fine and decorative art, being located in the popular New Walk area of central Leicester, being just off the London Road and Granby Street. The City Gallery, which was located on Granby Street, closed in 2010 and relocated to the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery.

The New Walk Museum and Art Gallery was founded in the middle of the 19th-century by the city's very own Literary and Philosophical Society. This museum has become the city's oldest and is now known for its Victorian Old Masters and German Expressionist paintings. There is also an extensive natural history section here, which in the past has been visited on a number of occasions by world-famous naturalist Sir David Attenborough. Other highlights include Egyptian mummies, impressive dinosaur skeletons and fossils, a gift shop and a branch of Costa Coffee.
