December and January are predictably the coldest months of the year in Exeter, and the dampest, although the climate remains relatively mild, with intermittent overnight frosts. January and February are the months when snow occasionally makes an appearance in the city, rarely settling for more than just a few hours.

April is when temperatures start to noticeably increase and the spring climate is soon very much apparent. Most years, May enjoys plenty of strong sunshine and this can be an excellent time to visit the city.
