Cambridge Gay and Lesbian Scene

Cambridge is home to a small gay and lesbian scene, with a number of themed bars, clubs and gay friendly hotels.

Much of the activity tends to be concentrated around Newmarket Road, Clifton Road, Sidney Street and Market Square, where you will find the majority of the bars and clubs. These parts of the city are at their most lively on Friday and Saturday nights, drawing university students and young locals.

Gay Pride Festival

The highlight of the gay and lesbian year in the university city of Cambridge is the Pink Festival, which takes place each August and welcomes all members of the general public, being completely free of charge to enter. This independent event is organized by a team of dedicated volunteers and is entirely 'not-for-profit'.

The Pink Festival is the biggest event of its kind in the East of England and is generally based around Cherry Hinton Hall, within the southeasterly suburbs of Cambridge. Attractions include concerts, cabaret acts, sporting events, street theatre and dance, as well as the chance to party well into the night.

Cambridge Gay Hotels

Most hotels based within the area are quite unbiased and welcome gay men and lesbian couples as guests, being happy to have their rooms occupied. These range from chain hotels, such as the Best Western, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn Express, Premier Inn and Travelodge, to more homely options.

These include the Acacia Guest House on Mowbray Road, in the Cherry Hinton area, as well as the award-winning Worth House on Chesterton Road.

The recently renovated Worth House, on the northeastern side of Cambridge city centre, comes very highly recommended on Tripadvisor and offers spotless guest rooms, free parking spaces and a friendly welcome, not to mention its hearty grilled full English breakfasts. There are even toasters on each of the tables in the breakfast room, complete with a choice of brown and white bread, caffetiere coffee and Earl Grey tea. Close by, the Acorn Guest House and the Kirkwood House provide further lodging opportunities.
