Osijek Shopping and Districts

(Osijek, Slavonia, Croatia)

Osijek is not as good for shopping as Zagreb or Split, yet there are many shops to choose from, along with modern shopping centres and more traditional Croatian markets. You can buy virtually anything in Osijek, from local handicrafts and souvenirs to traditional table cloths and electronics.

Prices here are reasonable for most things, especially for the traditional items that are usually handmade in the area. Bargain prices can be sought at the main open marketplace in the city centre, or you can head for the tourist areas along the river. The Kapucinska serves as the principal shopping street in Osijek and leads onto the busy Europska Avenija (Europa Avenue).

When to Shop and Where

The open-air market is a must for any tourist visiting Osijek. It is located in the city centre within the main square and, although open, has partially shaded roofing. While the quality is not assured, all sorts of items can be purchased and the prices can't be beaten.

Popular souvenirs and locally made produce worth seeking out when shopping include traditional table cloths at the market, handmade souvenirs from the various ethnicities, traditional instruments and antiques. There are several shops trading special items, such as the Rukotvorine near the Croatian National Theatre, which is particularly good for traditional souvenirs.

Souvenir shops are dotted all around the city centre, along with clothing stores and computer shops where you can also pick up CDs. Some of the fashions represented in Osijek include named such as Armani, Beneton, Castello, Mango, New Yorker and WGW, at stalls and department stores. There are also many underground shops beneath the Trg Svetog Trojstva (the main city square).

Notable malls and shopping centres in Osijek include the Esseker Centre, Ipercoop, Emezetta, Mercator and Interspar, among others. Company Konzum also has many outlets. If you are stuck with where to shop, simply head for the main square or along the riverside.
