For budget lodging in Alice Springs, accommodation comes in the form of various youth hostels, which provide nominal discounts for travellers who are a member of Nomads, VIP or YHA. Popular youth hostels are to be found along Gap Road, Parsons Street and Traeger Avenue, along with a selection of affordable hotels. There are also some camping grounds close by, being located at Ellery Creek (87 km / 54 miles to the west), Rainbow Valley (75 km / 47 miles to the south) and Trephina Gorge (60 km / 37 miles to the east).

Hotels in Alice Springs are considered fairly inexpensive and some of the areas with the largest concentrations of lodging include Barrett Drive, Gap Road, Gregory Terrace, Khalick Street, Larapinta Drive, Leichhardt Terrace, Parsons Street, Railway Terrace, Stephens Road, the Todd Mall, Traeger Avenue and Warburton Street. Of note, much of the available accommodation is at its cheapest during the hottest months of the Australian summer, in December, January and February.

Some of the most luxury hotels and lodging options in Alice Springs are situated on the eastern side of the Todd River. Particularly upmarket is the four-star Chifley Alice Springs Resort on Stott Terrace, where accommodation overlooks both the river and the surrounding Red Gum Eucalyptus trees. Close by is the Comfort Inn Outback, which stands at the base of the majestic MacDonnell Ranges.
