Local restaurants and eateries frequently have a good selection of wines from the famous Hunter Valley region, which is located just over 600 km / 370 miles to the south of Byron Bay, close to Sydney and Newcastle, where it is known for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay vineyards.

Restaurants in downtown Byron Bay are located along roads such as Bay lane and Jonson Street. Especially popular is the Beach Cafe, which resides on Lawson Street, close to Lighthouse Road and overlooking Clarkes Beach, where it serves as a reliable eatery for breakfast.

For fine dining in Byron Bay, consider a meal at the upmarket Rae's on Watego's Hotel, which stands on Marine Parade and features an al fresco restaurant seating up to 60 people. Ocean views are just one of the highlights here, while the cuisine includes gourmet seafood, wood-fired barbecues and Thai-style dishes. Also of note in Byron Bay is the Boomerang Grill on Fletcher Street, and the Beach Hotel on the corner of Bay Street and Jonson Street (close to Shirley Street) - home of the acclaimed Fins seafood restaurant and its Pacific Dining Room, as well as an enormous beer garden fronting the beach.
