(Byron Bay, New South Wales - NSW, Australia)

Picture of Bay StreetCurrently enjoying visitors numbers of more than one and a half million people each year, Byron Bay has grown to become an extremely popular destination, and as such, the town's shopping scene is flourishing.

Many local shops specialise in selling souvenirs to visiting tourists, and these can range from wooden carvings and bark paintings, to guide books, framed photographs and handmade jewellery. The works of local craftsmen and artisans from this part of New South Wales make for unique gift ideas, although if you are simply after a postcard of Byron Bay, then you won't have far to look. The same can be said for beachwear and surfing gear.

Where to Shop

Jonson Street is where much of the shopping in Byron Bay takes place and this bustling street is called home by a myriad of shops and boutiques. These are interspersed by a number of well-placed cafes and pubs, which suit keen shoppers laden with bags and needing a short break.

Located on Jonson Street is the Byron Bay Community Centre, where the renowned Planet Corroboree gift shop resides, selling a host of aboriginal art, boomerangs and didgeridoos, amongst other items. As well as Jonson Street, further shopping is concentrated around Fletcher Street, Lawson Street and Marvell Street, while on Butler Street, a popular craft and produce market is staged on the first Sunday of the month, being known for its street entertainers and handcrafted goods.
