However, the weather remains fine and temperatures high for most of the year in Byron Bay, with temperatures peaking at more than 30°C / 86°F during the summer months, when humidity may also be relatively high.

The climate in New South Wales is generally described as being 'tropical', which means that you should be sure to pack plenty of light clothes and bring a good supply of sunscreen. In the winter, the daytime temperatures in Byron Bay still regularly exceed 20°C / 68°F, although evenings feel decidedly cooler and are not really suitable for simply shorts and T-shirt if you are dining al fresco.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Many people choose to visit Byron Bay between July and September, when whales are known to migrate past the coastline for breeding purposes. Whale watching at this time of the year is extremely popular, with rainy weather being at its least likely.

January and February tend to experience the wettest climate, when precipitation levels average 115 mm / 4.5 inches and the waterfalls are at their most spectacular, as opposed to July's rather meagre 27 mm / 1 inch.
