Particularly popular is the Noguchi Yataro Memorial Museum, which celebrates the life of a local painter, while the Nagasaki City Public Museum contains many Japanese paintings, as well as huge numbers of important historic artefacts.

For a true glimpse into the city's interesting past, be sure to visit the Higashi-yamate Preservation Center, where old photographs document the changes to the cityscape.

A particularly popular attraction and brimming with information about the city's past, the Nagasaki City Public Museum is home to literally thousands of exhibits and local treasures. A number of artists from the area also exhibit their works here, in the well-lit gallery area. Other highlights include ceramics, sculptures and many important artefacts.

Noguchi Yataro Memorial Museum

The Noguchi Yataro Memorial Museum contains more than 250 paintings by famous local artist, Noguchi Yataro, who once lived in Tokyo before moving to the in Nagasaki Prefecture. The museum is split into various gallery areas and is dedicated to the life of this famous painter.

Higashi-yamate Preservation Center

The Higashi-yamate Preservation Center is a relatively small attraction and yet full of interest, despite its size. A range of photographs, both past and present, show the development of the city and the many changes, with regards to the layout and buildings. An upstairs gallery also hosts a number of temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

Minami-Yamate District Preservation Centre

This impressive Western-style building was built in the early 19th century by Wilson Walker, a British expatriate. Today, it is used as a display gallery and conference centre, hosting a number of important events over the course of the year. Attractions include a particularly interesting scale model of Nagasaki city.
