Jodhpur Restaurants and Dining

(Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India)

City centre viewAlthough Jodhpur is far from being celebrated for its restaurants, there are some notable eateries within the city. However, the most reliable dining tends to be found within Jodhpur hotels, and this is where you will find a sizable proportion of the city's restaurants located.

Rajasthani cuisine makes the very best of the regional produce and Jodhpur's eateries are no exception to this, with dishes such as 'daal-baati' (bread and beans) being a firm local favourite. The city's restaurants and other dining venues are famed for their sweet dishes, which are often served before the actual meal and include both 'churma' (crushed wheat, with ghee and jaggery sugar) and 'halva' (based on semolina).

What to Eat

There are a number of Indian delicacies that were actually born in Jodhpur and are still served at restaurants today. These include 'makhania lassi' (buttermilk), which is a very refreshing Indian yoghurt and honey drink, actually flavoured with saffron. Another one to look for when dining out is 'pyaaj kachori' - a tasty and rather spicy Indian doughnut, stuffed with onions and often eaten with chutney.

Restaurants in Jodhpur are also known for their 'mirchibada' (chilli, onion and potato), 'kachar mircha' curry (made using the local 'kachar' vegetable), and 'kadhi' (an unusual mixture if chilli, curd and flour).
