Jaswant Thada / Royal Cenotaphs

Address: Jodhpur, India, IN
The Jaswant Thada is a beautiful white-marble memorial, remembering the much-loved Maharaja Jaswant Singh II (1629 to 1680), who once ruled the Jodhpur region (Marwar). Located just 1 km / 0.5 miles from the Mehrangarh Fort, the Jaswant Thada features a fanciful arrangement of domes and stylized architecture. The cenotaph was constructed at the end of the 19th century and soon after, three further cenotaphs were built, together with the royal crematorium. It is well worth coming here for the exceptional views of the Mehrangarh Fort alone, so do be sure to bring your camera. Also of interest is the peacock memorial, which is said to have flown into the burning funeral pyre.
