Shanghai Art Galleries
Several renowned art galleries are to be found around the city of Shanghai and offer a mixture of temporary exhibitions and permanent collections, although art exhibits in some galleries do frequently exercise self-censorship.
Particularly noteworthy is the Shanghai Art Museum, which is housed in a heritage building and once overlooked a popular racecourse.
Many visitors to the city also choose to enjoy the many modern Chinese paintings on offer at the Elegant Gallery on Shui Cheng Nan Lu.

The artefacts on show tend to convey the social changes following China's Cultural Revolution. Past exhibits have included abstract paintings by Hu Wei Da and landscapes by Wu Xiao Shen.
