Many of the most significant landmarks lie within the monuments and the town of Jackson, where the Town Square and its iconic Antler Arches is a much-loved local sight, regularly appearing on postcards and brochures relating to this part of Wyoming.

Other impressive landmarks within Jackson Hole include the Gros Ventre Slide at the Bridger Teton National Forest, the dramatic Teton Mountain Range, and the Snake River, a very significant waterway. The Snake River slowly winds its way through Jackson Hole, passing the Teton Mountain Range and other dramatic landmarks along its route, with motorboat hire being extremely popular with tourists.

Town Square

The Town Square serves a number of different purposes in downtown Jackson, being a notable meeting place, a central location for local events, an a monument to the region's soldiers. Many appealing shops, cafes and galleries surround the Town Square, which is always buzzing with activities during the summer months. If you are here in the summer, then make sure that you catch the live entertainment, which consists of bank robbers and dancing showgirls.

Antler Arches / Barbed Wire Ball

There are a number of strange landmarks located within the town of Jackson, although few are more peculiar that its large curving arches, which are constructed out of collected elk antlers. These attractive arches are regularly photographed by visiting tourists and mark the four corners of the Town Square. Equally weird and popular, make sure that you look out for the gigantic ball of barbed wire, which is a world record breaker, being the largest in existence and weighing almost 5,300 pounds.

Jackson Lake

The Jackson Lake lies within Grand Teton National Park, where it remains one of the most striking of all the park's natural landmarks, although the top section was actually extended around 100 years ago, after the introduction of a dam. Actually created by glacial movements from the nearby Teton Range and fed by runoff from some of the smaller remaining glaciers within the mountains, Jackson Lake is amongst America's the biggest high-altitude lakes and stretches for around 15 miles / 24 km in length, by 7 miles / 11 km in width, being up to 130 meters / 427 feet deep. Both Elk Island and Donoho Point are sited within the lake, along with a number of further small islands. Many people come here to fish, catching pike, trout and salmon.

Snake River

Many summer tourists choose to spend time on the Snake River and hire their very own boat for the day, so that they can take in the scenery at their own pace, stopping off to have a picnic on the riverbank, before continuing downstream. The Snake River is also a good spot for fishing, rafting and canoeing, with numerous launch sites and water ramps being available for use.

Gros Ventre Slide

Situated within the Bridger Teton National Forest's Gros Ventre Wilderness, the Gros Ventre landslide is to be found some 7 miles / 11 km to the east of the Jackson Hole valley itself. This dramatic landslide occurred during the summer of 1925, following heavy rainfall. The resultant slide saw almost 40 million cubic meters of rock sliding down the northerly face of the Sheep Mountain, damming the Gros Ventre River changing the scenery forever, creating the suitably named 'Slide Lake', which is today used for both fishing and Boating. Although the forest has started to reclaimed and colonize the landscape, is remains a noteworthy landmark when viewed from many vantage points around the valley, being close to the Highway US-26 and the Antelope Flats.

Few mountain ranges come more impressive than Jackson Hole's very own Tetons, which are part of North America's Rocky Mountains. The majority of the Tetons reside in the Grand Teton National Park and is very much dominated by the peaks of Mount Owen and the Grand Teton, which is the park's highest mountain, at almost 4,200 meters / 13,780 feet tall. The Tetons have become especially famous landmarks in their own right, since unusually they do not features any lower foothills or peaks, meaning that the views are completely uninterrupted and quite outstanding.
